About
Dazmonique Carr started this journey when she saw a need to increase student access to healthier eating on Wayne State University's campus in Detroit, Michigan.
She was an undergraduate student majoring in Kinesiology: Exercise & Sports Science and minoring in Nutrition & Food Science in 2016 when she often wondered where to source the nutrients she was learning about. She then was introduced to urban gardening by Stathis Pauls, started volunteering for Keep Growing Detroit and the rest was history.
This volunteerism turned into a drive to increase access to the foods that organizations and farmers like Keep Growing Detroit were producing thus Deeply Rooted Produce was developed.
Its always deeper because there's more to the story...

Optimize Wayne is a Wayne State University nonprofit that supports student ideas that create positive change. Any idea you feel is important. Maybe you envision this idea becoming a startup, non-profit, or student organization. They host an annual Social Innovation Challenge is to encourage students to work on solving issues they are passionate about and that include tenets of social innovation.

The Founder of DRP is a alumnus of Wayne State University and has earned two degrees from this prominent research institution. She is still involved with WSU and looks for continued support from her the advisors of her athletic career and academic staff at WSU.

Taste the Local Difference® (TLD) is Michigan’s local food marketing agency. As proponents of the Michigan Good Food Charter and signatories to their resolution seeking to have 20% of all food sold in Michigan come from Michigan farms and food businesses by 2020. TLD has a mission to educate consumers about the value of local food, and support food and farming entrepreneurs in building successful, well-connected, and thoughtful businesses."

Citywide SOUP winners (2018)
Detroit SOUP is a micro-granting dinner celebrating creative projects in Detroit. This grass-roots initiative started 10 years ago supporting artists. Soup has now evolved to be hosted in different neighborhoods in Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck with presentations about projects that viscerally affect these areas.

Detroit Community Markets is a network of neighborhood locations where you can buy fresh, affordable, locally grown and produced food. This includes farmers markets, farm stands, gardens, and food box programs! Most of the locations accept Bridge Cards & Double Up Food Bucks.
